Takeshi Kamiya’s work as the Global Director of Urban Design & Planning at Overland Partners reflects his commitment to producing inspiring and impactful work that prioritizes environmental sustainability, fosters well-being, and leads to measurable human transformation. With a focus on collaboration, innovation, and creativity, Kamiya advocates for sustainable and equitable practices through urban design, master planning, and architecture. His portfolio includes projects at some of the country’s top-ranked private and public universities, including Caltech, Georgetown, and the University of Miami, as well as the Hudson Yards Master Plan, one of the most impactful urban master plan projects in the U.S. Kamiya has also worked on projects in his home country of Japan, including the Hokkaido Ballpark, designed for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters baseball team, during his time at architecture firm HKS, Inc. The first of its kind in Japan, Kamiya believes it will transform sports and entertainment projects around the world. 

Kamiya’s passion for exploring how architecture shapes a city’s identity began while studying as an undergraduate in his home country of Japan. He furthered his understanding of urban design by completing the graduate program in architecture at Pratt Institute in New York City, a college known for its commitment to craft, sustainability, and social responsibility in design. With a deep appreciation for the importance and interplay of science and art, Takeshi creates designs that are not only buildable but also undeniably beautiful, resulting in memorable places that are responsible, viable, and loved by people.
