The U.S. Army Medical Department Museum welcomes visitors to Military City USA. As a world-class museum destination that compellingly presents the significant history and contributions of military medicine, it is the only museum of its kind in the United States.
The mission of the U.S. Army Medical Department Museum is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret historically significant property related to the history of the Army Medical Department from 1775 to the present. As an educational institution, the museum supports training and education for military and civilian personnel.
The renovation and new addition to the Army Medical Department Museum will attain to uphold the nearly 250 years of storied military medical history by paying tribute to regimental history, past service men and women, and engaging a new generation of military students and civilians. The building will be adaptable and transparent to visiting patrons by creating a meaningful connection between the museum and the Combat Medic statue, honoring combat medics of the past, present, and future. Phase I of the design, introduces guests to a new public access portal and entry into the space. It will include perimeter fencing, public parking and a larger, more expansive gift shop. Phase II includes the addition of prefunction space as well as a 300-seat auditorium. Phase III of the project will include interior renovation of regimental room and support spaces. Phase IV includes the construction of a pergola, which will house the latest generation of aero-medical evacuation vehicles and aircraft.
For over 240 years, Army Medicine has been a significant part of our nation’s history. Support for this space will include construction of the current museum complex, construction of the Medal of Honor Walk, and acquisition of artifacts, equipment, uniforms, and military art from the American Revolution to today’s worldwide military operations. It will also include acquisition and display of military evacuation vehicles, including ground and air ambulances and a WWII railcar. Finally, this space will be opened for educational conferences, recognition ceremonies, and for Army medical personnel to enjoy for years to come.
